Splendiferous Occasion at Ruislip for the Chief Rabbi's ShabbatUK

On Friday 24th October Ruislip, in common with most synagogues around London and the provinces, celebrated the Chief Rabbi's initiative to have Shabbat UK. They did this by providing a hot meal for over 75 participants in the Synagogue Hall which was beautifully decorated and laid out by an army of willing helpers organised by the Ladies Guild, who did a superlative job in a remarkably short time scale.

Rabbi Coten presided over the proceedings and mentioned how thrilled he was to be with such a warm, caring community who pulled out all stops to make this occasion such a success. He mentioned that even though Ruislip Synagogue was small the response to this initiative had been overwhelming, and the proof of the pudding was evident in the happiness portrayed by the congregation and in the delight of the wonderful meal provided especially as it was piping hot and very welcome on a cold evening.

Ronnie Cotsen, Warden, also thanked everyone involved in ShabbatUK and said that although he had been very doubtful that people would come after Succoth and Simchas Torah he had been proved wrong and was delighted with the whole event.

Ruislip are now gearing themselves up to their next function, the Interfaith Evening which also promises to be noteworthy.
